Victorinox Gardening Tools

Victorinox Gardening Tools are a collection of (usually) 100mm horticultural Swiss Army Knives. They are generally specialized knives aimed at the professional market, and often feature one or two blades and no other tools.

Current Models

The current (c. 2026) line-up of Victorinox gardening knives include:

  • Floral Knife - Currently only available in red in US market, but other colors in other markets; Includes Left-Handed variants

  • Pruning Knife S - Curved 110mm handle
  • Pruning Knife M - Curved 110mm handle with a thicker body

Handles

Nylon/Polyamide handles with exposed brass rivets.

  • Black
  • Red (.B1)

Additionally, the Floral knife has been available in these colors in Europe since 2010:

  • Violet (.22B1)
  • Light blue (.25B1)
  • Lime green (.47B1)
  • Pink (.53B1)
  • Canary yellow (.70)

Some pruning knives have previously been available in Hardwood handles.

History

Victorinox has produced knives for the horticultural market for many years.

All Models and Identifiers

In the 2000s, all models were in the range of 1.9000-1.9900. The equivalent "Ecoline" Gardening knives, introduced later, have similar model numbers in the range 3.9000-3.9900. In the below list, linked or bold text indicates the name of a model in at least one Victorinox catalog.

  • 1.9010 - Clip-point grafting blade; brass liners; black nylon scales - later rebranded Day Packer and marketed to the general US outdoors market

  • 1.9020 - Large budding blade
    • 3.9020 - Budding Knife Combi

  • 1.9030 - Wharencliff blade, brass liners, black

  • 1.9040 - Small budding knife blade
    • 3.9040 - Budding Knife Combi S

Similar folding-knife models appear in Victorinox catalogs as early as 1942 (see 1942 catalog, 1946 Catalog). At that time, the model numbers were as follows:

  • Gardener's Knives, with black celluloid or horn handles:
    • 284 - Clip-point blade and bark lifter
    • 285 - Clip-point blade, hawkbill blade, and bark lifter
    • 286 - Clip-point blade, Wharencliff blade, and bark lifter
    • 287 - Clip-point blade, sheepsfoot blade, and bark lifter
    • 288 - Wharencliff blade
    • 289 - Sheepsfoot blade
    • 292 - Clip-point blade
  • Grafting Knives, with black celluloid handles:
    • 462 - Large combination budding blade

    • 472 (472/10) - Clip-point blade and bark lifter

These models appear to have been re-worked into the familiar nylon-handled models by the 1980s (see 1984 US catalog and 1989 catalog). In 1984, the US model numbers were:

  • #5047 - Hawkbill blade, similar to the later 3.9060
  • #5048 - Sheepsfoot blade, similar to the later 1.9050 (Gardener)
  • #5811 - Large combination grafting blade, similar to the later 1.9020
  • #5813 - Sheepsfoot blade and small combination grafting blade, similar to the later 3.9045
  • #5815 - Clip-point blade and bark lifter, similar to the later 3.9110
  • #5817 - Wharrencliff blade, similar to the later 1.9030
