Budding Knife

Victorinox Budding Knives are a series of 100mm horticultural Swiss Army Knives, a part of Victorinox's Gardening Tools line. Many of these knives feature a specialized Combination Budding Blade, which has a flat edge, pointed tip, and integrated bark lifter on the spine.

Models

The current (c. 2026) line-up of Victorinox budding/grafting knives include:

  • Budding Knife Combi - Large combination budding blade
  • Budding Knife Combi S - Small combination budding blade
  • Budding Knife Combi 2 - Small combination budding blade, and brass bark lifter
  • Budding Knife 2 - Clip point blade and brass bark lifter
  • Budding and Pruning Knife 3 - Clip point blade, hawkbill blade, and brass bark lifter

Discontinued models include:

  • 1.9010 - Clip-point blade - later rebranded Day Packer and marketed to the general US outdoors market
  • 1.9030 - Wharncliffe blade
  • Grafter - Small combination budding blade, and sheepsfoot blade (pictured)
  • 1.9113 - Three layers: brass budding blade, modified clip-point blade, Wharncliffe blade
  • 1940s Grafting models:
    • 462 - Large combination budding blade
    • 463 - Wharncliffe blade
    • 464 - Small combination budding blade
    • 471 - Clip-point blade and bark lifter
    • 472 (472/10) - Clip-point blade and bark lifter
    • 473 (473/10) - Wharncliffe blade and bark lifter

The Nylon-handled models by the 1980s (see 1984 US catalog and 1989 catalog). In 1984, the US model numbers were:

  • #5811 - Large combination grafting blade, similar to 1.9020
  • #5813 - Sheepsfoot blade and small combination grafting blade, similar to 3.9045
  • #5815 - Clip-point blade and bark lifter, similar to 3.9110
  • #5817 - Wharrencliff blade, similar to 1.9030
