Series List

print

Victorinox and Wenger occasionally produce a series of knives. The series are sometimes created in collaboration with a specific reseller, and/or may only be sold through a specific reseller or distributor. A series is often sold in a single or a limited number of markets, and the quantity produced is always significantly less than for a standard model. These are usually targeted specifically at collectors or are luxury priced items featuring additional scale and/or blade art.
The special attributes of these series and their limited production quantities generally make them more collectible, and can often be hard to locate after the series has been sold out.

Event Summary Booklet Cover

Swiss Battle Series

This special series of seven different knives started in 1983 and ended in 1991 with the issue of the final knife and a special Battle Series Collection set of all the knives. Sometimes known as the Battle Knives, this series commemorates famous Swiss alliances and battles from the middle age time period. Each knife has inlaid scale art of the event and the main blade is engraved with the name and date of the event, as well as a special crest. Each knife is limited to 9999 pieces and has an individual serial number stamped on the liner behind the corkscrew. The knives are packaged in a wooden presentation box containing a serialized certificate of authenticity, and a brief description of the event and the history of Victorinox in German, English, and French.

Knives in the series are:

Wildlife Series

This series, a Smoky Mountain Knife Works exclusive, takes common 91mm knives and adds scale art work of different animals.

  • 2003- Black Huntsman: Marked with the SOSAK Logo and "The Secret Order Of Swiss Army Knives" this knife was the first of what would eventually become the Knife Of The Year series. It doesn't have a year stamp since at the time it was merely a one-off. This knife originally came in a tin presentation box.

  • 2004- Translucent Sapphire Deluxe Tinker: Marked with the SOSAK logo and 2004 only, this was the only model so far to feature the imprint on the "back" side of the knife. This knife originally came in a tin presentation box.

  • 2005- Cobalt Blue Hiker: Again, marked with only the SOSAK Logo and the year, the cobalt blue Hiker had the imprint on the "front" side of the knife, which allowed the logo and print to be larger than the 2004 Deluxe Tinker. This knife originally came in a tin presentation box.

  • 2006- Black bladed One Handed Trekker: A radical change from the previous years, the 2006 OHT featured a blackened blade and was printed with only the name "Secret Order of Swiss Army Knives 2006" on the front side. This knife also was the only Knife Of The Year so far to be issued without a presentation box.

  • 2007- Wenger EvoGrip 16: The first Knife Of The Year from Wenger, the EvoGrip 16 also featured the SOSAK logo laser etched into the black rubber grip panels. It came housed in a classy hinged metal, velvet lined presentation box.

  • 2009- Wenger RangerGrip 78: The second Knife Of The Year from Wenger, the NewRanger RangerGrip 78 features the SOSAK logo, and year laser etched into the black rubber grip panels. It came in a hinged silver metal presentation case with velvet lining.

Victorinox Classic SD Sterling Series

Sterling Series, Basketweave, Barleycorn, Hammered, and Swirl

This is a series of the Classic SD knife featuring solid Sterling Silver scales with a number of different textured patterns in the metal work. Victorinox reported the scales to be "handcrafted by one of the world's most prestigious silversmiths" without identifying them by name. Subsequent information appears to identify the company as Lunt Silversmiths. The knives in this series do not have the Tweezers or Toothpick tools. The original documentation states that the Polished and Barleycorn versions have an engraving plate on the back. However, versions of the Basketweave, and Swirl have also had the engraving panel. Which would seem to leave the Hammered version as the only one without an engraving panel; However, the Polished has been available without an engraving panel, which suggests that maybe the original documentation was just wrong. These small knives are beautiful and have a solid feel to them, weighing 40-50g depending on model. This is not known to be a limited series, and as of November 2008 are still readily available. There is some information that suggests that the production may have been halted, but it could just be the lowering of inventory levels. More should be known soon.

  • Polished
  • Basketweave
  • Barleycorn
  • Hammered
  • Swirl

Victorinox Jubilee Series

1891 Soldiers Knife - Jubilee Limited Edition
 Cybertool 34 Jubilee Edition
In 2009 Victorinox celebrated their 125th Year with the release of a Jubilee Series. A special Jubilee Anniversary Logo "125 YEARS YOUR COMPANION FOR LIFE" is etched into the primary blade on each knife, and the Victorinox cross and shield emblem is printed in gold on the red handles in a special pattern. The knives are packaged in a special 125th Anniversary box, and include a red cloth drawstring pouch for the knife. The Cybertool has a serial number stamped on the liner behind the corkscrew. The SwissCard is packaged with a real leather Weekend Wallet that just holds a couple cards and includes a mirror.

The showpiece of the series is an original replica of the first Soldier’s Knife delivered to the Swiss Army in 1891. The Jubilee Soldier Knife, known as the 125th Anniversary Heritage Swiss Army Knife, will be produced as a limited edition of four collections each of 1884 pieces. The different collections are destined for different geographical regions, with collection III being designated for North America.

Victorinox Military Collector's Set 2010

2010 Limited Edition Military Set
The 2010 Military Collection is a very limited edition of only 200 sets. This special military theme collector's set was a collaboration between Victorinox and their representative for France and Italy. There was no official distribution outside of these markets, but international on-line purchases expanded distributuon. This set features 3 different tools, the Sentinel with clip, One-Handed Trekker (Trailmaster in Europe), and the Spirit-X with blast-cap crimper. The set is packaged in a unique wooden case designed to look like a military crate, and each of the tools come in their own Victorinox military sewn leather pouch. In keeping with the major theme, all the tools are made stealth black using a black oxide coating seen on a few Victorinox tools in the past. The tools in this set even have black liners and the Sentinel includes a black clip. The attention to detail in this set is high.

Tools in this set:

Notes:
  1. Reported to be limited to 200 sets, they are individually numbered n/199, so there may exist a 0/199 to make up the 200 or there could be only 199 is open circulation.

  2. The advertising brochure shows the OHT knife with the older elongated hole for one-handed opening, but actual photographs of production sets have the newer round hole. It's not known for sure if this varies with some sets or not, but it is most likely all sets have the new blade with the more round thumb catch.

  3. The One-Handed Trekker, Spirit-X, and pouches have been available outside of this set; although difficult to find in most markets.
